What is a shower screen and what is it for

The shower screen is a perforated plate located on the brewing unit of the coffee machine. It evenly distributes hot water from the boiler across the whole surface of the ground coffee, so that extraction proceeds evenly and the coffee has a balanced taste.

Signs of wear

• Discoloration, clogged holes or deposits of coffee oil and limescale
• Uneven water flow, channeling or dripping outside the central area
• Bitter, burnt or, conversely, watery coffee taste
• Extended brewing time or unstable pressure during extraction

When it's time for a replacement

A clogged or damaged screen cannot ensure even wetting of the coffee bed, which is directly reflected in the cup and in the consistency of individual brews. Regularly replacing it with a new screen helps maintain stable coffee quality and reduces the risk of clogging the brewing unit.
