Nivona error 8 (Error 8)

Error 8 on Nivona means the brew unit isn't moving correctly, most often due to a worn gear or dirt.

Error 8 on Nivona machines signals a fault in the brew unit drive. When its movement jams, the machine shows Error 8.

Most common causes

  • Worn or cracked plastic drive gear
  • Dirty and dried brew unit (too much mechanical resistance)
  • Faulty motor with drain valve (turns one way only)
  • Faulty position sensor or control electronics

What to check first

Is error 8 the same as on Jura?

The symptom is the same, the unit doesn't reach position, but the cause differs. On Nivona it's almost always a cracked or worn plastic gear in the drive, not the motor like on Jura. That gear is available as a spare part and gets replaced.

Can it be fixed at home?

Cleaning and greasing the unit, yes. Replacing the gear means dismantling the drive, it's doable with our tutorial and a torx set, but it takes patience and it's best to take photos while disassembling.
