A puddle under the machine on the worktop means a water leak, most often through a leaking valve, gasket or hose.

When you find a puddle under the machine on the worktop, water is escaping outside the appliance. Unlike a full tray, this is an external leak in the water circuit.

What's the difference from a full tray?

A full tray is internal, the water stays in the machine. A puddle on the worktop means water is escaping outside the circuit, most often from a cracked tank, a loose hose or a leaking valve. It's more serious, because the water can reach the electronics.

How do I find where it's leaking?

Wipe the machine and the base dry, put a paper towel underneath and run a coffee and a hot-water draw. Whichever spot wets the paper first tells you the side, usually at the tank or down at the pump and valve.
