Jura error 8 (Störung 8)

Error 8 on Jura means the brew unit isn't reaching the correct position, most often due to dirt or a worn drive.

Solutions

Error 8 (in German Störung 8) is the most common fault on Jura machines. The machine reports that the brew unit isn't reaching its working position. It's the most heavily used part, so it's the first to fail.

Most common causes

  • Dried coffee and dirt in the brew unit
  • Worn drive motor
  • Faulty position sensor (encoder)
  • Mechanical jam in the gear train

What to check first

  • Run the cleaning program with a tablet
  • Descale the machine
  • Unplug the machine for 1 to 2 minutes and try a reset

Unlike DeLonghi, the Jura brew unit can't be removed without dismantling the machine. If the error persists, we recommend a specialist workshop.

Can error 8 be fixed at home?

It depends on the cause. When the unit is just dirty, cleaning and greasing with silicone grease is enough, anyone can do it. When the drive motor or encoder are worn, you have to open the Jura from the side, and that takes experience, because the Jura brew unit doesn't pull out like on a DeLonghi.

All Jura automatics with a brew unit, most often the E6, E8, S8, Z6, Z8, ENA 8 and Impressa series. The principle and the spare part are very similar across the ranges.
