Coffee machine not heating

Cold or lukewarm coffee means a heating problem, most often the heating element, the thermoblock or the thermal fuse.

If the machine only makes cold or lukewarm coffee, or doesn't heat at all, the problem is in the heating circuit. Limescale is often behind it.

Most common causes

  • Faulty heating element or thermoblock
  • Blown thermal fuse
  • Faulty thermostat or NTC temperature sensor
  • Heavy limescale build-up

Before replacing parts, run a thorough descaling, limescale is the most common cause of weak heating.

The coffee is only lukewarm, is the boiler dead?

Usually not. The most common cause of lukewarm coffee is limescale in the thermoblock, so first run a thorough descaling, twice in a row is fine. If the water is still lukewarm, it's the heating element or the thermostat.

After overheating it stopped heating completely.

That's the typical blown thermal fuse, which protects the element from burning out. It's a cheap swap, but watch out, a fuse doesn't blow for no reason, it's usually the scaled-up element that trips it, so remove the cause too or it'll blow again.
