What is a steam valve knob and what is it for

The steam valve knob is a control element used to open and close the steam supply to the coffee machine's frothing wand. The barista uses it to regulate the amount of steam when frothing milk or heating water, so it must sit firmly on the valve shaft and allow smooth and precise control.

Typical signs of wear

Over time, the connection between the knob and the valve spindle loosens, causing the knob to spin freely or sit loosely, which makes fine steam dosing difficult. Mechanical damage, cracking, or a worn surface that makes it hard to grip with a wet hand may also appear.
