What is a calibrated tamper

A calibrated tamper is used to manually tamp ground coffee in the portafilter basket before brewing espresso. Unlike a regular tamper, it contains a mechanism that signals when the recommended pressure has been reached, allowing you to apply the same force every time you prepare coffee.

Why consistent pressure matters

Uneven or too light tamping leads to uneven extraction, sour or bitter taste, and inconsistent results in the cup. Thanks to a calibrated tamper, both experienced and beginner baristas can more easily tell whether they are tamping too lightly or too firmly.
