What is a water distributor

The water distributor is a part of the coffee machine's brewing unit that delivers hot water from the boiler or thermoblock evenly onto the coffee puck. Its role is to split the stream of water into several smaller streams so that extraction takes place evenly across the whole surface of the ground coffee.

When the part stops doing its job

If the distributor is clogged with limescale, damaged, or has blocked holes, water reaches the puck unevenly. This shows up as unbalanced extraction, sour or bitter tasting coffee, or channeling. A damaged seal or cracked body can also cause water to leak around the brewing unit.
