What is a valve nozzle (gicleur)
A valve nozzle, often referred to as a gicleur, is a small precision component with an opening of a precisely defined diameter, which is fitted into a water or steam valve. Its role is to restrict and stabilize the flow of the medium so that the coffee machine maintains the required pressure and flow rate during a given stage of brewing or milk frothing.
Signs of wear
When the nozzle becomes clogged with limescale deposits or impurities, the flow decreases and coffee extraction becomes uneven, or milk frothing slows down. The opposite problem is the widening of the opening due to wear or corrosion, which causes too fast and uncontrolled flow, water leaking outside the intended cycle, or pressure fluctuations.
Why replace this part in time
A damaged or clogged nozzle affects the taste of the coffee, the consistency of milk foam, and the overall pressure stability in the circuit. Timely replacement prevents overloading of the pump and valve, which would otherwise have to compensate for incorrect flow, and keeps beverage preparation consistent.
How to choose the right nozzle
- Check compatibility using the table on the product page, as the opening diameter varies between models.
- When replacing it, we also recommend checking the condition of the valve itself, into which the nozzle is fitted.
