What is a coffee group shower disc

The group shower disc is a metal disc with numerous small holes located directly above the coffee screen. Its job is to evenly distribute the water coming from the group head across the entire surface of the ground coffee, so that extraction is even and the taste of the espresso is balanced.

Signs of wear

Over time, the holes in the shower disc become clogged with coffee oils and limescale. Water then flows through only part of the surface, extraction becomes uneven, the espresso may taste bitter, sour or watery, and cloudy sediment may appear in the cup. Sometimes a weaker flow or pressure behavior from the group can also be noticed.
