What is a mechanical valve / piston

A mechanical valve, or piston, is a moving component that controls the flow of water or steam inside the coffee machine. It opens and closes the path according to the current brewing phase, ensuring that water flows in the right direction at the right time and under the required pressure.

How to spot wear

When the piston or the valve's sealing surface loses precision due to wear, it shows up as water leaking outside its intended path, fluctuating pressure, insufficient crema on espresso, or a watery drink instead. Unusual sounds when switching functions are also common, as well as error messages related to pressure or flow.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

De’Longhi coffee machine – water leaks into the drip tray

With De’Longhi coffee machines, a common cause of water leaking into the drip tray is a damaged mechanical piston valve. This valve ensures proper water flow during coffee preparation. If the valve is worn, dirty, or mechanically damaged, the water flows into the drip tray instead of the cup.
