What is the brewing unit nozzle

The nozzle is a part of the brew group through which hot water passes just before making contact with the ground coffee. Its shape and opening determine how the water is dispersed and evenly distributed across the coffee puck.

When the part stops doing its job

• Uneven extraction and inconsistent coffee taste
• Channeling in the coffee puck, weak or conversely too fast extraction
• Clogging with limescale or coffee oils restricting water flow
• Water leaking around the nozzle due to a damaged thread or sealing surface

When it's time for a replacement

A clogged or damaged nozzle changes the water distribution and thus the extraction quality, regardless of how good your coffee beans are. Gradual wear can be partially mitigated by cleaning, but once the opening is deformed or corroded, cleaning no longer helps and the coffee taste remains unstable.
