What is a water tank and what is it for

The water tank is the container from which the coffee machine draws water to brew coffee, and in some cases also to produce steam or flush the system. It is the only water source for the entire appliance, so it must be leak-proof, sturdy, and fit precisely into its housing so that the sensors can read it correctly.

Signs of wear and faults

Cracks or leaks show up as dripping or water seeping into the inside of the coffee machine. A damaged or deformed cap or lid can cause the coffee machine to report a lack of water even when the tank is full. Mounting issues are also common - the tank sits loosely, wobbles, or doesn't seat tightly in place, which can lead to error messages or interruptions during brewing.

When it's time for a replacement

A leaking or damaged tank can allow water to get into the coffee machine's electronics and cause serious damage to the appliance. Timely replacement therefore protects not only the machine's function but also its overall lifespan.
