What the water level sensor does

The water level sensor monitors how much water is in the tank or in the coffee machine's circuit and sends this information to the control unit. Based on its signal, the machine knows when to refill water, when to start heating, or when to stop preparation to prevent it from running dry.

Signs of wear or malfunction

A faulty or dirty sensor most often shows up as the coffee machine reporting a lack of water even when the tank is full, or it may stop responding to the actual water level and start heating without water. It can also happen that the machine fails to detect that water is running out, causing preparation to stop mid-cycle or an error message to appear on the display.

When it's time for a replacement

A malfunctioning sensor can lead to overheating of the heating element or repeated interruptions during beverage preparation, which puts extra strain on the machine's other components. Timely replacement prevents bigger failures and ensures that the coffee machine reliably indicates the actual water level.
