What is a mushroom valve

A mushroom valve (also called a check valve or shut-off valve) is a small component in a coffee machine's water circuit, shaped like a mushroom or small cap. Its job is to let water flow in only one direction and prevent backflow or loss of pressure in the system.

Typical signs of wear

When the valve loses its seal, this usually shows up as uneven pressure during brewing, dripping or leaking water outside its normal path, or the machine failing to build enough pressure for a proper espresso. Sometimes an unusual sound can also be heard when water is drawn in or dispensed.

Why replace this part in time

A damaged or worn valve can cause unstable pump operation, unnecessary strain on other components, and a worse coffee taste due to incorrect water flow. Replacing it in time helps prevent bigger faults in the water circuit.
