What is a thermoblock and what is it for

A thermoblock is a heating unit that quickly heats the water flowing through a metal block in a coffee machine just before it reaches the brew head or steam nozzle. Instead of a large boiler, it provides flow-through heating, which means the coffee machine is ready to use more quickly.

Signs of wear

A worn or damaged thermoblock is most often indicated by insufficient water temperature, inconsistent coffee taste, longer brewing time, or complete loss of heating. Error messages on the display, the coffee machine switching off on its own, or water leaking at the thermoblock connection are also common, which may indicate a cracked block or a damaged seal.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A faulty thermoblock not only worsens the quality of the coffee prepared, but in the case of more serious damage it can also cause water to leak into the coffee machine's electronics, leading to further and more costly faults. Timely replacement therefore also protects the other components of the appliance.
