Tamper base

The tamper base is the replaceable flat part of the tool used to pack ground coffee into the filter basket. It attaches to the handle via a thread, and its flat surface ensures an even and firm compression of the coffee dose, which is essential for balanced extraction.

Signs of wear

With continued use, the surface of the base can become scratched, deformed, or lose its flatness. This results in uneven tamping of the coffee, leading to unbalanced extraction, sour or bitter taste, and uneven water flow through the coffee puck. A loose or worn thread can cause the base to come off the handle during use.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A damaged base makes it harder to prepare quality espresso and can also damage the portafilter basket. Timely replacement ensures even dosing and stable coffee quality with every preparation.
