What is a steam valve and what is it for

The steam valve controls the flow of steam from the boiler to the nozzle used for frothing or heating milk and other liquids. It opens and closes the pressure circuit, so it must seal reliably even with repeated opening and closing throughout the day.

Signs of wear

• Steam leaks even when the lever or knob is closed
• The valve control is stiff, hard to turn, or fails to hold its position
• Hissing or water dripping from the nozzle outside of frothing
• Uneven or weak steam flow

Why timely replacement pays off

A leaking or damaged valve increases water and energy consumption, slows down drink preparation, and can lead to an uncontrolled release of hot steam, which is also a safety risk. Timely replacement prevents more extensive interventions in the coffee machine's steam circuit.
