What is a contact thermostat

A contact thermostat is a safety and control component that monitors the temperature of the boiler or heating element in a coffee machine. When the set temperature is reached, it interrupts or closes the heating circuit, keeping the water or steam within the correct range. Through direct contact with the element, it reacts quickly to temperature changes without complex electronics.

How to spot wear

A worn or damaged thermostat causes unstable water temperature, coffee that is too hot or too cold, longer heating times, or a complete loss of heating. In worse cases, a faulty contact can cause the machine to overheat or trigger safety fuses, signalling a more serious safety issue.
