What the thermostat in a coffee machine does

The thermostat is a component that senses the temperature of water or steam in the heating element or thermoblock and switches the power supply to the heating element on or off according to the set value. Thanks to it, the water heats up to the correct temperature and the coffee machine neither underheats nor overheats.

Signs of wear or failure

• The coffee is too cold or, conversely, scorched and bitter
• The coffee machine keeps switching on and off or stops heating completely
• The device shows a heating error or the safety fuse is triggered
• Longer time needed to prepare coffee or steam

When it's time for a replacement

A faulty or inaccurate thermostat can cause the heating element to overheat, leading to further faults or, in the worst case, damage to surrounding components. Timely replacement protects the other parts of the coffee machine and restores a stable brewing temperature.
