What is a silicone hose and what is it for

A silicone hose is used in a coffee machine to carry water or steam between the tank, boiler, pump and other components. Thanks to its flexibility and heat resistance, it withstands repeated heating and pressure changes that commonly occur during coffee brewing or milk frothing.

How wear shows up

As the material ages, it loses flexibility, can crack, become soft or, conversely, harden and lose its seal at the joints. This shows up as water or steam leaking, dripping under the machine, weaker flow or an unusual smell when heated. In extreme cases the hose can burst and cause a larger leak of liquid directly into the appliance.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A damaged hose affects the pressure and flow of water, which also affects the taste and consistency of the coffee. Long-term leaking can also damage nearby electrical or mechanical parts of the machine, so it's worth replacing the hose before a bigger failure occurs.

How to choose the right hose

• Check the diameter and length against the original part or the compatibility table on the product page.
• When choosing, consider whether the hose carries cold water, hot water or steam.
• Cut the hose to the required length with a clean, straight cut only, so it fits the fittings without leaks.
