What is a heating element and what is it for
The heating element is the component that heats water in the boiler or thermoblock of the coffee machine to the temperature needed for brewing coffee or frothing milk. Without a functioning element, the coffee machine either never reaches operating temperature or maintains it unstably.
Signs of wear or failure
- Water or steam does not reach the required temperature, coffee is lukewarm
- The coffee machine takes a long time to heat up or never reaches temperature
- Thermostat tripping or sparking, or a blown fuse
- Heating error message on the machine's display
When it's time for a replacement
A damaged or burnt-out element can cause uneven heating, increased energy consumption, and in worse cases damage other electrical components of the coffee machine. Timely replacement prevents a breakdown in coffee preparation and the possible risk of a short circuit.
Selection advice
Heating elements vary in power, voltage, and shape depending on the specific boiler type, so you should always check compatibility with your machine in the compatibility table on the product page.
