What is a retaining ring

A retaining ring (also called a circlip or snap ring) is a small metal component that fits into a groove on a shaft or in a bore and serves to axially secure other parts in place. In a coffee machine, it holds parts such as bearings, pins, pistons or the boiler so they cannot shift or come loose during normal operation.

Signs of wear or damage

• A loose or corroded ring loses its tension and can no longer hold sufficient pressure in the groove
• The part it was securing starts to move, rattle or fall out
• Water or steam leakage may appear at the point where the ring was securing another part's seal

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement
