What is an expansion valve

The expansion valve is part of the coffee machine's hydraulic circuit and is responsible for regulating the pressure and water flow between the boiler, pump and brewing unit. This group includes the valve body itself as well as its individual components, such as the connector or sealing washer, which together ensure the proper and tight functioning of the whole mechanism.

Typical signs of wear

A worn or damaged expansion valve shows itself through water or steam leaking at the joints, pressure fluctuations during coffee preparation, irregular flow, or unusual noise while the pump is running. A damaged washer or connector can cause leaks even if the valve body itself is fine.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A leaking or malfunctioning valve puts strain on the pump and heating system, can lead to unstable coffee extraction, and in the worst case to a bigger failure of the hydraulic circuit. Replacing the worn part in time prevents more serious interventions in the machine.
