What is a ball valve and what is it used for

A ball valve is a component of a coffee machine's water or steam circuit that uses a rotating ball with a hole to shut off or open the flow of water or steam. It is used, for example, when filling the boiler, on the steam wand, or in the piping inside the machine, where it is necessary to quickly and reliably interrupt the flow of liquid.

Typical signs of wear

A worn or damaged valve shows itself through leaking water or steam even in the closed position, a stiff or, conversely, too loose lever action, dripping under the machine, or uneven flow. Over time, the internal seals lose their elasticity and no longer seal properly against the valve ball.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A leaking valve increases water consumption, can cause damage to surrounding components through moisture, and in the case of the steam circuit also poses a safety risk. Timely replacement prevents bigger repairs and keeps the coffee machine running smoothly.
