What is a radial retaining ring

A radial retaining (circlip) ring is a small metal part that fits into a groove on a shaft or in a bore and serves to axially secure other components, such as bearings, gears or bushings inside the coffee machine. Without it, adjacent parts could shift and lose their correct position.

Signs of wear or failure

If the ring is deformed, corroded or loses its elasticity, it can come loose from the groove. This usually results in excessive play in the mechanism, unusual noise, vibrations or displacement of a component that no longer sits precisely in place. In some cases it can also cause leaking or reduced function of moving parts.

When it's time for a replacement

A loose or damaged retaining ring can lead to greater wear of surrounding parts and, in the worst case, to their complete displacement from position. Timely replacement with a new ring is a simple and inexpensive way to prevent a more extensive repair.

How to choose the right part
