What is a lip seal

A lip seal, also called a flexible seal, is a special type of seal with a flexible lip that is used in places where moving or detachable joints in a coffee machine need to be sealed, for example between the body and the lever or at steam and water valves. Thanks to its shape, it adapts to pressure and ensures tightness even with repeated opening and closing of the joint.

Signs of wear

Over time, the seal loses its elasticity, hardens or cracks. This shows up as water or steam escaping from its intended path, hissing, dripping around the joint, or a drop in pressure when brewing coffee. Sometimes there is also a smell of burnt rubber when the seal comes into contact with heat.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A leaking joint means not only less coffee in the cup and inconsistent taste, but also increased strain on surrounding parts, which can suffer more quickly from escaping water or steam. Timely replacement prevents further damage and keeps the coffee machine's performance stable.
