What is a contactor and what it is used for

A contactor is an electromagnetic switch that controls the power supply to the high-power components in a coffee machine, most often heating elements or motors. It works as a remotely controlled switch that, on command from the control electronics, connects or disconnects higher currents that could not be safely carried by a weaker switch or directly through the board.

A worn or damaged contactor shows itself through irregular switching on of the heating, power outages in some part of the coffee machine, clicking or buzzing of the coil, or a completely non-functional state where the appliance does not heat up at all.
