What the steam wand seal does

The steam wand or steam pipe seal ensures that when frothing milk or drawing steam, no steam or hot water escapes outside the path it is meant to follow. It sits between the wand and the coffee machine body, forming a joint that must withstand high temperature and pressure.

How to spot wear

When the seal loses elasticity or becomes cracked, steam starts leaking or water starts dripping from under the wand. Milk frothing becomes weaker, uneven, or accompanied by hissing from the joint instead of from the wand tip. Sometimes a visible limescale buildup appears around the leaking spot.

Why timely replacement pays off

A leaking joint means loss of pressure, poorer quality of milk foam, and unnecessary strain on the steam system, which has to heat up more to reach the required output. Long-term neglect can also damage surrounding plastic or metal parts due to constant moisture exposure.

How to choose the right seal
