What is an ORM seal and what it's used for

Unlike a standard O-ring, an ORM seal has a square cross-section, which allows it to sit more stably in the groove and better withstand pressure and thermal stress. In a coffee machine, it seals joints between metal or plastic parts through which water or steam passes, for example around the boiler, valves or connections.

How to spot wear

When the seal loses its elasticity or cracks, this shows up as water or steam leaking directly from the joint, dripping under the machine, hissing during coffee preparation, or a drop in pressure that affects extraction and coffee taste. If neglected for a long time, moisture can also damage surrounding electrical or mechanical parts.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A damaged seal usually cannot be repaired, only replaced with a new piece of the same shape and size. Timely replacement prevents larger leaks, unnecessary wear on other parts and inconsistent coffee taste.
