What the microswitch does

A microswitch is a small electrical switch that signals to the coffee machine the position of a moving part or attached container - for example a closed door, a properly fitted milk carafe or another cover or service element. Without this signal, the coffee machine's control electronics cannot confirm that the appliance is safely assembled, so it blocks certain functions.

How to spot wear

A worn or damaged microswitch shows itself by the coffee machine reporting an open door or a missing container even though everything is in place. The appliance may refuse to start brewing, interrupt it mid-cycle, or fail to correctly detect the connected milk carafe and not start preparing milk-based drinks. Sometimes the switch also shows mechanical signs - clicking loosely, without resistance, or not clicking at all.

Why timely replacement pays off

A faulty microswitch prevents normal operation of the coffee machine and over time can cause the appliance to stop working completely, even though the other components are fine. Replacing this inexpensive part often solves a problem that at first glance looks more serious.
