What an L-fitting is and what it's used for

An L-fitting is an L-shaped metal connector that links hoses, tubes, or other components of the water or steam circuit in a coffee machine at an angle. It allows the direction of water or steam flow to be changed without having to bend the hose itself, reducing the risk of kinking and damage.

How to spot wear

• Water or steam leaking at the joint
• Reduced pressure or uneven flow
• Visible corrosion, limescale deposits, or a damaged thread
• Difficulty tightening the connection or it not sealing properly

A worn or damaged fitting loses its seal and can allow water to leak inside the coffee machine, leading to damage to surrounding components and even causing the machine to fail.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

Replacing the fitting in time prevents more serious damage to the water circuit and keeps the pressure stable, which is needed for proper coffee brewing and milk frothing.
