What the brewing unit gearbox does

The gearbox is part of the brewing unit's drive that moves the pistons to compress the coffee puck and then eject it. It transfers force from the motor to the unit's mechanism, allowing the whole brewing cycle to run smoothly.

How to spot wear

Worn or damaged gears in the gearbox cause unusual noise, grinding, or clicking during coffee preparation. The coffee machine may report a brewing unit error, get stuck mid-cycle, or the unit may stop moving altogether. Sometimes the plastic teeth crack, making force transmission impossible entirely.

Why timely replacement pays off

If the gearbox doesn't work properly, the brewing unit can't compress or eject the coffee puck, causing the machine to jam or coffee preparation to fail completely. Timely replacement prevents further strain on the surrounding components of the unit and restores smooth operation of the machine.
