What is a gear motor and what is it for

A gear motor is a drive unit that provides the mechanical movement needed for the operation of the grinder, doser, piston or other mechanism in the coffee machine. It combines an electric motor with a gearbox that reduces speed and increases the force required for the reliable operation of the appliance.

Signs of wear or failure

A worn or damaged gear motor shows itself through unusual noise, vibrations, slowed or jerky movement of the mechanism, or the complete stopping of the function it drives. An error message may also appear on the coffee machine's display, or the coffee preparation may be interrupted mid-cycle.

When it's time for a replacement

If the motor does not work properly, it puts strain on the other components of the mechanism and can cause them to wear out or become damaged prematurely. Timely replacement prevents bigger failures and ensures smooth and reliable coffee preparation.
