What is a coffee machine seal and what is it for

A seal is a rubber or silicone component that separates individual parts of a coffee machine and prevents water, steam or pressure from escaping their intended path. It is found, for example, around the brewing unit, the flow heater or other joints through which water or steam passes under pressure.
