What this seal does

The coffee container seal sits between the bean hopper (or ground coffee container) and the body of the coffee machine. Its job is to seal the joint so that no air or moisture can get in, keeping the beans protected from losing their aroma.

The container then no longer seals properly - the beans become damp faster and lose their aroma, dust or small debris can get into the space, and the container may sit more loosely on the machine body, which shows up as a slightly loose, wobbly fit.
