What this seal does

The seal between the grinder and the coffee bean container keeps the bean compartment closed during grinding. It prevents coffee beans or dust from escaping the grinder, while also keeping the beans protected from moisture and odours from the surroundings.

When the part stops doing its job

An old or hardened seal loses its flexibility and no longer fits tightly.
