What a flat gasket is and what it does

A flat gasket is a simple yet important part that is placed between two connected parts of a coffee machine, for example between a flange, a valve, or another joint. Its job is to create a tight seal that prevents water, steam, or pressure from escaping outside the intended path.

When the part stops doing its job

Over time, the gasket loses its elasticity, hardens, or becomes permanently deformed by pressure and heat. This can result in dripping or leaking water at the joint, reduced pressure, hissing from escaping steam, or uneven operation of the coffee machine. Sometimes a visible trace of moisture appears around the joint, indicating that the gasket is no longer doing its job.

Why replace this part in time

A damaged or hardened gasket can cause uneven pressure during brewing, water leaking into the inside of the machine, and consequently damage to surrounding parts. Timely replacement is a quick and cheap way to prevent bigger problems.
