What is a portafilter stand

A portafilter stand is a support base that holds the portafilter in a stable position away from the coffee machine. It is used when dosing coffee, tamping or weighing a dose on a precision scale, when you need your hands free and the portafilter resting safely without the risk of tipping over or damaging the work surface.

Why it's worth having one when preparing coffee

Without a stable support, the portafilter can easily tip over during handling, spilling ground coffee or scratching the countertop or scale. The stand prevents this and also speeds up and improves the accuracy of preparation, since the portafilter stays in one place throughout the entire dosing and tamping process.
