What the coffee grinder does
The coffee grinder grinds roasted beans to the fineness required for a given brewing method – from fine grinding for espresso to coarser grinding for drip methods. The quality and consistency of the grind directly affects extraction and the resulting taste of the coffee.
When the part stops doing its job
Worn or dirty grinding burrs show up as uneven particle size, increased fines, inconsistent taste between individual doses, noisier operation, or slower grinding. In electric grinders, wear can also lead to motor overheating or jamming.
Why address the problem early
Poor or uneven grinding will show in the taste of the coffee regardless of the quality of the beans or the coffee machine's settings. A properly working grinder is therefore the foundation for a stable and repeatable cup quality.
