What this cleaning disc does

The Cleaning Disc 54mm is a blind filter accessory used together with a cleaning detergent to run a backflush cycle on portafilter espresso machines. It sits in the portafilter basket in place of coffee grounds, allowing pressurised water to be forced back through the group head's internal pathways rather than out through the spout.

Why regular use matters

Over time, coffee oils and fine residue build up inside the brew group, the shower screen and the solenoid valve, which can lead to bitter-tasting shots, uneven extraction and slower flow. Regular backflushing with a cleaning disc helps dissolve and flush out this residue, keeping the group head cleaner and supporting more consistent extraction.
