What is a bipolar switch and what it's for

A bipolar switch is a main or functional switch on a coffee machine that simultaneously switches both poles of the electrical circuit. It is used to turn the power of the entire appliance or individual functions, such as heating or the pump, on and off. Thanks to double-pole switching, it ensures a safer disconnection of the appliance from the mains.

Signs of wear or failure

A worn or damaged switch shows itself through a stiff or overly soft button action, crackling or sparking when pressed, one of the functions not working, or the coffee machine not responding to being switched on at all. Sometimes the internal contacts fuse together permanently, which can result in the appliance being impossible to switch off even after the switch is pulled out.
