What is a heat exchanger

The heat exchanger is a boiler component that separates the coffee water from the water used for steam and hot water for milk. Fresh water passes through it and is heated by the heat of the surrounding boiler, while the heating element ensures the required water temperature is maintained throughout the system.

How to spot wear

A clogged or damaged heat exchanger shows itself through unstable extraction temperature, fluctuating pressure, slower heating or water leaks. If the heating element fails, the coffee machine takes longer to reach temperature, an error message related to heating may appear, or it may stop heating altogether.

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

Unstable temperature directly affects the taste of the coffee and the consistency of extraction. Delaying the replacement can lead to greater limescale buildup in the boiler or a complete heating failure, increasing the scope of repair needed.
