What is a check valve

A check valve is a small component located in the hydraulic circuit of a coffee machine that allows water to flow in only one direction. Its job is to prevent water or pressure from the heating system from flowing back into the pump or tank when the coffee machine is not in operation or when the flow is interrupted.

How to spot wear

When the valve leaks or gets clogged with limescale, it shows up as irregular pressure during brewing, fluctuating water flow, pump noise, or the coffee machine letting water flow back into the system after being switched off. You may also notice a longer brewing time or inconsistent coffee taste caused by unstable pressure.

Why replace this part in time

A damaged check valve puts extra strain on the pump and heating system, which can lead to further faults. Replacing it in time protects other components and restores a stable and predictable extraction process.
