When the machine doesn't froth milk or only makes thin froth, the most common cause is a clogged or worn frother and nozzle. The fix is similar on automatics and lever machines.

- Clogged or worn milk frother or carafe
- Nozzle and milk channel dried up with milk
- Worn frother gasket
- Leaking or cracked milk intake hose

Why did the machine suddenly stop frothing milk?
Nine times out of ten it's dried milk in the nozzle or the frother channel. Take the frother apart, soak the parts in warm water and clear the small holes with a toothpick or needle. If it's clean and still won't froth, the frother itself is worn or the hose is drawing in air.
It froths weakly, is it a part?
Not necessarily. Cold, fresh, whole milk froths best, UHT from the shelf poorly. Try different milk and a clean nozzle. If that doesn't help, the nozzle or the frother's air valve is worn.
