What is a check valve

A check (non-return) valve is a small one-way component in the hydraulic circuit of a coffee machine that lets water or steam flow in only one direction. It prevents pressure or liquid from flowing back into the pump, boiler, or circuit it has just passed through, keeping the system pressure stable.

When the part stops doing its job

• Fluctuating or insufficient pressure during coffee preparation
• Water leaking back toward the pump or from the connection when the machine is switched off
• Uneven water flow, slow or inconsistent boiler filling
• Unusual pump noise caused by back pressure

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement
