Function of the power switch in a coffee machine

The power switch is used to turn the coffee machine or its individual circuits on and off, for example the heater, pump, or steam wand. It is a mechanical switching component through which the electric current needed to operate the appliance flows.

How to spot wear

• The coffee machine does not turn on, or only turns on after pressing several times
• The switch sticks halfway, clicks without effect, or gets stuck
• The on indicator flickers, or the appliance switches itself off
• There is a burning smell around the switch or sparking can be heard

Worn or damaged contacts inside the switch cause unreliable switching, which can lead to intermittent power supply and, in worse cases, damage to other electrical components of the coffee machine. Timely replacement restores reliable operation and reduces the risk of an electrical fault.
