What a flat gasket is and what it does

A flat gasket is a simple but important component that is placed between two connected parts of a coffee machine, for example between a fitting and a hose, valve or boiler. Its role is to create a tight seal that prevents water, steam or pressure from leaking at the point where the two parts meet.

How to spot wear

A flat gasket is exposed to heat, pressure and repeated tightening of joints, which over time causes it to lose elasticity and its ability to seal perfectly. A worn or hardened gasket shows itself through water dripping around the joint, steam leaks, a drop in pressure or an audible hissing sound during coffee preparation.
