What is a portafilter gasket

The portafilter gasket sits between the brew group (group head) and the portafilter with filter. Its role is to create a tight seal that holds the pressure of hot water during espresso preparation and prevents it from leaking out around the filter.

Typical signs of wear

A worn or hardened gasket shows itself through water or steam leaking between the portafilter and the group head, hissing during extraction, fluctuating pressure, and uneven or weaker coffee taste. Sometimes traces of limescale or dried coffee residue can also be seen around the joint.

Why replace this part in time

A damaged gasket reduces extraction quality and can make the portafilter harder to lock into or hold in place during brewing. Timely replacement protects other parts of the group head from unnecessary pressure strain and keeps the coffee consistent.
