Blinking lights on Philips and Saeco machines aren't a single fault but a signal. Depending on which light and how it blinks, the machine is asking for a specific action. Some cases are solved by maintenance, others only by replacing a part.

What each light means

Fast blinking with an exclamation mark: descaling is needed
Waste light: the grounds container or brew unit is missing or wrongly inserted
AquaClean light: the water filter needs activating or replacing
Blinking tank: empty water tank or poor contact

When it's a faulty part

If the lights keep blinking despite maintenance and a correctly inserted unit, it's most often a faulty sensor or fuse, faulty electronics or a heating problem.

Frequently asked questions

The lights blink even after descaling, what now?

First make sure descaling ran all the way to the end, Philips won't finish it until the clean-water rinse has run too. Then take out and refit the brew unit and the grounds container, wrong seating is a common cause. If it still blinks, the sensor or board is faulty and the machine needs reading with diagnostics.

Which light means a fault and which just maintenance?

The exclamation mark and AquaClean are routine, descaling or a filter change, no part to replace. But when all the lights blink at once or the machine switches off by itself, that's already a fault, most often a sensor, a fuse or the power board.
